Tough Guy

the coffee cup straight from hell

Hot, bold, full-bodied — my new coffee cup that is — not the generic industrial bullshit tar that is poured into it, daily at work.

My new cup was a thoughtful gift from a coworker, whose true intentions I am beginning to question.  Being ever so fashionable and comfortable to hold, upon unvailing I quickly crowned thee “The most beautiful cup in the office”.

New porcelain sitting unscathed.  Pure.  White.  Untouched.  On standby.  Tomorrow comes and caffeine is quickly prescribed, filled and ready to be consumed.  And then it strikes.

My height, gait, stride, step, walking velocity, elbow angle combined with the geometry of The-most-beautiful-cup-in-the-office delivers a swift disaster.  The two of us, The most beautiful cup and I, have matching resonate frequencies.  With each step coffee swishes and swashes, growing, perfectly, boiling mini-tsunami’s pour over the sides scolding my hand.

Damn you most beautiful cup in the office.

Keep Calm & Carry On

Scepticism is as much the result of knowledge, as knowledge is of scepticism. To be content with what we at present know, is, for the most part, to shut our ears against conviction; since, from the very gradual character of our education, we must continually forget, and emancipate ourselves from, knowledge previously acquired; we must set aside old notions and embrace fresh ones; and, as we learn, we must be daily unlearning something which it has cost us no small labour and anxiety to acquire.

Pacing Life

Life goes by fast.  Achievements produced with crayons or finger paint, weird haze of jr. highschool, when will high school end?  done!  what, more school? done.  work… work… work…

And one day, cross legged in the spare bedroom surrounded with unpacked flat-packed furniture, and you’ve just built a crib and pre-show to becoming a dad.

Wisdom for a future child: “Enjoy every bit, pace yourself.  You’ll be 1, 2, 5, 15, and skip 25 years old and be sniffing at 35 years old in not time.”
